LaVerne Davis was born on May 7, 1931, to Henderson P.  and Lena Obenhaus Davis at the family farm outside of Odem Texas. She grew up in Odem with her loving parents and her brother Bud along with extended family and friends. 

At the age of nine she was baptized by Brother Doc Toery at the Sinton Church of Christ.  LaVerne was always a faithful member of the Church of Christ till her death. She attended Odem schools graduating in 1948 and an Odem Owl till the day she died.

In 1959 she adopted her son Wayne and in 1960 she adopted Wayne’s sister Pam. She was an outstanding, affectionate mother to both over all the years.

Upon marrying Lonnie Chant in 1965, they followed his career with the Corps of Engineers and FEMA, living in Conroe and the Dallas area, settling in Seguin.  Over the years LaVerne worked at the Corpus Christi Water Plant, University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston and for Trammel Crow at the World Trade Center in Dallas. LaVerne was an exceptional hostess, cook, painter and excelled in many crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bud, her son Wayne Butler and her husband Lonnie Chant.  She is survived by her daughter Pamela Akins, two grandchildren- Lorette Williams and Lon Burnam, seven great grandchildren and numerous great, great grandchildren. LaVerne will be missed by all the family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The funeral service will continue at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Odem.
