Leopoldo Gabriel Atkinson Obituary

Leopoldo Gabriel Atkinson, age 37 of Sinton, Texas passed away on Saturday September 26, 2026. He was a deeply loving and devoted father to his two boys, a loyal friend, a brother and a son whose warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

Leo, also affectionately known as Bubba by his family, grew up with a joyful outlook on life. As a young boy and teenager who grew into a man, his character kept evolving. From an early age he had a tender heart and was a very loving person. He was quick witted with his humor, a safe place to talk with friends and who always advocated for them to simply be themselves, and a father who wanted his boys to know that his family was his priority. He was loved so much by his mother, father, and siblings. As the baby of the family, he was often teased as being his mother’s favorite, but he was simply the last to come, to love with her whole heart and she did. His absence will be felt by the family and truly missed – his smile, the sound of his laugh, and his humor.

A wonderful trait that Leo carried was that of a talented musician. An artistic flair he received from his mother. Her love of art and music was passed down to him and even to his sons which brings us all joy. At an early age he taught himself how to play guitar, his first love, and then many other instruments. As part of the high school curriculum, SHS Band created a mariachi band. Leo joined and played guitar. But his success story in music comes from the fact that he and his friends had tenacity and the dream to start up their own rock band. They performed at school under the name, Painting Broadway, a garage band full of friends with a love of music and dream of a life of playing on the road. Giving it a couple of years and new bandmates, they did it. He played with his friends, and he traveled to many states selling merchandise and music as a member of This Years Fashion. His family went to support at shows locally and was in awe of a shy boy showing big energy up on stage. He truly loved playing music and never left a guitar he saw untouched. In the latter part of May 2026, he reunited with bandmates of TYF and played a couple of shows, putting his gifts and talents to use again up on stage. He was truly passionate about the music he performed and the friends he was able to perform with. His friends, bandmates, and his music was a vibrant part of his soul that he counted his friends as family always valuing his friendships and making sure the people around him felt supported, included, and loved.

Leo chose the career pathway and trade of a diesel mechanic. He always found himself learning more and gaining promotions. His approachable nature was well-received and warmly reciprocated by so many of his co-workers who turned into lasting friends that reached from his first endeavors in Corpus Christi, to Austin, San Antonio, and back home again. He ended his career as a Service Advisor at Rush Truck Centers in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a man who truly understood the value of hard work and he poured his heart into his career to provide for his family.

Above all his passions and achievements nothing compared to the love he had for his two boys, Phoenix and Reign. They were his absolute world. When they were just babies, he was in awe of how precious they were to him. Phoenix carries his talent in art through the visual sense, dabbling in different mediums. And Reign is drawn to music. They share many of his personality traits, his humor, his mannerisms, and his looks. He loved his two boys immensely guiding them with a gentle heart and showing them every day what it meant to be a great Dad - trying in every way to give his best to them. His legacy of love and strength will live on through them forever. It is because of Phoenix and Reign that he lived life moving forward, always working and striving to do his best. He will forever go on looking after his boys, protecting and guiding, as a father does.

Leo was preceded in death by his mother, Yolanda Atkinson. They shall be united together again, a mother and her baby boy.

He is survived by his father, Leopoldo Atkinson (Sylvia) of Sinton, his sons Phoenix Atkinson and Reign Atkinson, both of New York, his brother Jacob (Bertha) Cavazos of Sinton, his sister JoAnna (Tony) Delgado of Sinton, and sister Corina Atkinson of Sinton. He had numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who will all cherish his memory.

“Those who we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen and unheard but always near - still loved, still missed, and very dear.”
