Lucinda Ann Benavides, a dedicated public servant and cherished member of the Rockport community, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion and unwavering devotion to her family and her calling to medicine.
Born August 1, 1954 in Rockport, Texas, Lucinda was a woman whose life was defined by her heart for service. She was a comforting face to many in their moments of greatest need through the Coastal Bend, committing over 26 years of her life to emergency medical services. Her distinguished career included 19 years of service as a Paramedic for Aransas County EMS, and seven years as an EMT for Refugio EMS. To her colleagues and the countless lives she touched, she was a hero who met every emergency with a steady hand and a brave spirit.
While Lucinda was a pillar of the community, her greatest joy was always found at home.
Lucinda was the daughter of the late Pauline Falcon Chupe. She was preceded in death by her mother, her cherished husband, Sammy Benavides; her brother, Demetrio F. Chupe Jr, and her sister, Henrietta Rios.
Her legacy of love continues through her children, Ruben (Brigette) Estrada, Jr. from Corpus Christi, Texas, Paula (Herbert) Berna from Rockport, Texas and Monica (Robert) May from Rockport, Texas. Her grandchildren Azely, Cheyenne, Jake, Frankie, Malia, Zoe, Jaxon and four great-grandchildren, were all a source of endless joy for her. She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia Valdez from Rockport, Texas, Azemy (Wesley) Wells from Luling, Texas and Dennis (Christie) Chupe from Rockport, Texas.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Aransas Pass, Texas. The Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A Christian Rites Service will be celebrated Monday, March 30, 2026, 10:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Aransas Pass, Texas. Burial will follow in Rockport Cemetery, Rockport.
Her life of service was truly a life well-lived, and while she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain the soul that keeps her family together.
