Taft – Manuel Tijerina Jr. passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026 at the age of 89.

Manuel was born on June 17, 1936 in Rangerville, Texas to Francisca (Moran) and Manuel Tijerina, Sr.. He was a longtime resident of Taft. Manuel married the love of his life, Maria dela Luz, and together they built a loving home centered on faith, family and devotion to their children.

A dedicated heavy equipment operator for more than 55 years, Manuel continued working until the age of 80. Known for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, he touched countless lives with his kindness, compassion and willingness to help others. Manuel had a joyful soul, a warm smile and a heart full of love for everyone he met.

A devoted man of faith, Manuel was a prayer warrior and leader of a prayer group who offered wisdom, encouragement and solid advice to family and friends alike. He was known for his sharp style, positive outlook on life, and his love of singing and praying. His presence brought comfort and happiness to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Manuel is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria dela Luz Tijerina; his son, Ricardo “Ricky” Tijerina; grandson, Daniel Tijerina; granddaughter, Monica Garcia; great-grandson, Levi Tijerina; and his parents, Manuel and Francisca Tijerina.

Survivors include his children: Francisco “Franky” Tijerina (Terri) from Meadows Place, Texas; Adelina Martinez from Taft, Texas; Estevan “Steve” Tijerina (Nancy) from Sinton, Texas; Gloria Gaucin (Steve) from Sanger, CA; Alicia Aldape (Bernardo) from Houston, Texas;  and David Tijerina (Olga) from Deer Park, Texas; along with 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin Friday, May 15, 2026, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 16, 2026, 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Taft. Burial will follow in Lamas Memorial Park Cemetery, Taft.
