Odem – Maria Elena Mejias passed away on October 22, 2024. She was 69.

Maria Elena was born June 19, 1955 in Taft, Texas to Virginia (Santellana) and Gilberto Garza. She was a resident of Odem for many years before moving to San Antonio. Maria Elena worked as an Administrative Assistant for several Corpus Christi refineries. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding in death are her parents: Gilberto and Virginia Garza; sister: Diana Garza.

Survivors include her sons: Israel Mejias (Cynthia) from San Antonio,Texas and Robert Martinez, Jr (Joanna) from Pharr, Texas; several grandchildren: brothers: Gilbert Garza (Anita) from Odem, Texas and David Garza (Nancy) from Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters: Alicia Gonzales, Virginia Garza (David) and Yolanda Garza all from Odem, Texas.

Visitation will begin Friday, October 25, 2024, 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM, at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 26, 2024, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Odem.  Burial will follow in San Pedro Cemetery, Odem
