Maria Elena Vargas passed away peacefully August 9, 2026 in Austin, Texas. She was 75.

Maria was born April 30, 1951 in Sinton, Texas to Aurora (Garza) and Mike Maldonado. She was a resident of Austin currently, but lived formerly in Aransas Pass, Taft and Sinton.

Maria was a loving wife and mother. She loved watching movies and was committed to doing everything and anything with her beloved husband, Ray Vargas, as long as she was by his side. Maria was a strong woman. When she set her sites on getting what she wanted, she found a way to get what she wanted and made it happen. Above all, Maria was sweet, kind and loving. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding in death are her husband, Ray Vargas; her parents, Mike and Aurora Maldonado; and siblings, Mike Maldonado, Janie Maldonado, Armando Maldonado, Adolfo Maldonado, Mary Lou Gonzales and Odilia Maldonado.

Left to cherish Maria’s memory is her daughter, Linda and husband Jose Morales Gonzalez from Austin, Texas; and her fur grandbabies, Suny and Kayla.

Visitation will held Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. The family will receive guests from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Prayer Service will be held the same evening, 6:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be Sunday, August 23, 2026, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow, 11:30 AM in Lamas Memorial Park Cemetery, Taft.
