Sinton – Maria Elena “Nena” Curiel passed away on August 3, 2024. She was 72.

Nena was born April 29, 1952 in Sinton, Texas to Audelia (Gonzales) and Joaquin Garcia, Sr. She was a resident of Sinton, Texas for most of her life. Nena was formally employed as a Paraprofessional. She was a Preschool Teacher with Christ Community Christian School in Austin and in the private sector in La Porte. Nena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. She loved the Lord and her family, expressing this love in the way she led her life.

Preceding in death are her parents: Joaquin Sr. and Audelia Garcia; and brother-in-law: Pastor Roman Encinia.

Survivors include her husband: Rene Curiel from Sinton, Texas; daughter: Ledy Cancino (Danny) from San Antonio, Texas; 3 grandchildren: Annelyse Elena Cancino, Ellasyn Brienne Cancino and Daniel “Trey” Cancino, III; brother: Joaquin “Jack” Garcia, Jr. (Susie) from Paige, Texas; sisters: Isabel Encinia and Naomi Pena (Luis), all from Sinton, Texas and Adela Castellon (Mario) from Azle, Texas.

Visitation will begin Sunday, August 11, 2024, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Funeral Service will be held the same evening, 5:00 PM at the funeral home. A Graveside Service will be held the following day, Monday, August 12, 2024, 10:00 AM at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, Corpus Christi.
