Maria Garza Alaniz passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. She was 95.

Maria was born on September 2, 1930 in Bee County, Texas to Mercedes (Morin) and Francisco Garza. She was a lifelong resident of Sinton, Texas, where she was a familiar and welcoming presence to students and faculty during her many years of dedication in food service with Sinton ISD.

Maria was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her smile was genuine, her heart sincere, and her love for her family unwavering. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by remaining present in the lives of those they love, just as she always did.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Demetrio Alaniz; son, Demetrio Alaniz Jr.; a daughter, Audona Castillo; grandsons, Shaun Castillo and Ernest Castillo Jr.; granddaughters, Sarah Castillo and Kay Castillo; and her son-in-law, Mario Maldonado.

Maria is survived by a son, Michael Alaniz and a daughter, Ester Maldonado, both from Sinton, Texas; her grandchildren, Mark Castillo (Natalie), Amy Molina (Oscar), Jennifer Reed (TJ), John Alaniz (Mel), James Alaniz and Emily Maldonado; great-grandchildren, Eric Castillo, Danielle Greenup, Cassandra Castillo, Kristen Garza, Andrew Molina, Abby Molina, Scott Castillo, Bailey Alaniz, and Nora Alaniz; and great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members who will cherish her memory.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM that evening.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 12, 2026, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Sinton with Father Yul Ibay as celebrant. Burial will follow in Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton.
