Marilyn Gay (Morris) Stedman Cathey

Portland – Marilyn Gay Morris Stedman Cathey passed away on August 22, 2023. She was 79.

Marilyn was born in Gary, Indiana on July 6, 1944 to Mildred Marie (Mantel) and Arthur William Morris. She retired after working 30 plus years as a Claims Manager for Walmart. Marilyn was born and raised in NW Indiana, previously living in Kansas City. She never wanted accolades, she was involved with many charities, but remained behind the scene.  Marilyn moved to KC to their beloved Barn House and were known for their awesome Christmas parties; it was warm and welcoming.  She was family oriented, a loving mentor, loving mom, a kick-ass broad and was born to be wild. Marilyn was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her former spouses: Richard James Stedman and Donald Edward Cathey; daughter: Lori Stedman; parents: Arthur and Mildred Morris; brother: James Morris; sister: Arlene Morris.

Survivors include her sons: Richard James Stedman, Jr (Diana) from Griffith, Indiana, Reginald John Stedman (Nannette) from La Crosse, Indiana, Perry Lee Cathey and Mark Wesley Cathey (Sophia) both from Portland, Texas and Matthew Edward Cathey from Austin, Texas; daughter: Cindy Stedman from Sun Lake, Arizona; 3 grandchildren: Kira, Evan and Jon; sisters: Terry Banks from Trimble, Missouri and Beverly Kennedy from Schererville, Indiana.
