Ingleside - Martha was born January 16, 1923, in Emmons County to Philip and Emma Schlittenhardt. The family lived in Temvik, N.D. until moving to Bismarck in 1944. Martha was born again at age 12 in Temvik Baptist Church and was baptized in the Temvik Dam in the summer of 1938. In 1944 she attended Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis.
Martha married Henry Just in Bismarck on December 14, 1945 where they made their home and raised 5 children and helped raise some of her grandchildren along with her great grandchildren, including taking them to church.
Martha worked at the Bismarck Hospital for 33 years then retired. She took care of her niece Cheryl’s son Andy from 6 weeks old until third grade and daughter Chelsie 6 weeks old to first grade. While she was living at the high rise senior living facility she worked 4 hours a day cleaning Cresent manner and Cresent west halls and stairways. Martha also was called on to take care of her mother and her sister Ella before their passing. She has worked for Green Thumb and for BCEPT as a foster grandparent. Besides five years of volunteer work Martha has taught Sunday school for 40 years, and she learned to drive a car and earned her G.E.D. when she was a grandmother.
Martha is survived by two brothers and two sister-in-law’s; Dennis (Bonnie) Schlittenhardt and Darrel (Oddie) Schlittenhardt all of Bismarck. She will be deeply missed by her children: Rose Kavonius; Leon Just; Michael (Flordemay) Just and Renae (Cary) Barnett. Her grandchildren: Kenneth, William, John, Stacy, Leon Jr., Valerie (Alberto), Michael (Viridiana) Jr., Steven (Jessica), and Elizabeth (Mani); 16 great-grandchildren; 6 great- great- grandchildren; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband: Henry; daughter Ruth; her parents; 3 sisters: Christina; Ella Skager and Alma Miller; 2 brothers: Herman and George; sister-in-law: Alyce; niece: Vickie; and nephew: Ronnie.
