Martin F. Gonzales Obituary
Martin F. Gonzales, 83, from Aransas Pass, Texas passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026 in Rockport, Texas.
Martin was born on January 2, 1943 to David Gonzales Sr. and Eva (Franco) Gonzales. Though deaf and unable to speak, Martin never allowed his limitations to define him. From the age of 5, his father taught him the value of hard work and working with his hands, lessons that shaped the man he became.
A gifted paint and body technician, Martin dedicated 35 years of service to Commercial Motors in Aransas Pass, where he worked from 1971 until his retirement in 2006. He was known for his strong work ethic, artistic talent, and attention to detail.
Martin loved being surrounded by family and was known for his playful sense of humor and ability to make others laugh. He enjoyed attending the annual Shrimporee Parade, drawing beautiful shrimp boats, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and caring for orphaned squirrels. Although he communicated without words, his kindness, gentle spirit, and love for others spoke volumes.
Above all, Martin was a devoted Catholic and God-fearing man whose faith guided his life. He was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle who will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Eva Gonzales, and brother, Daniel “Danny” Gonzales.
Martin is survived by his daughter, Monica Patton; his grandchildren, Andrea Gonzales and Nathan Patton; his great-granddaughter, Alice Torres; his sister and longtime caretaker, Virginia Garza; his brothers, David (Rosita) Gonzales Jr., Johnny (Sylvia) Gonzales, and Jesus “Jesse” Gonzales; his sisters, Mary Muniz and Rose Castro; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members who cherished him.
His legacy of faith, hard work, kindness, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lee Sang, the compassionate staff at Rockport Nursing and Rehabilitation, and his hospice team at Trinity Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Aransas Pass. The family will receive guests beginning at 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same day, 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
