Martin "Marty" Vara

Taft – Martin “Marty” Vara passed away September 2, 2020 . He was 56.

Marty was born on January 31, 1964 in Sinton, Texas to Juan and Frances (Escobedo) Vara. He was a lifelong resident of Taft. Marty was a retired Fireman/Paramedic of 31 years. He worked previously at Spohn Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and, most recently, was Taft ISD’s District Nurse. Marty never stopped giving. He was well known and respected by his peers. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Marty is preceded in death by his parents: Juan and Frances Vara, and brother: Johnny Vara.

Survivors include his wife: Elida Vara from Taft, Texas; 3 sons: Adrian Garcia of Taft, Texas; Thomas Vara (Maria Molina) of San
Antonio, Texas; Michael Vara from Taft, Texas; daughter: Lyla Vara; sisters: Maria T. Malloy (James) from Ingleside, Texas; Mary Ann Gonzales (Victor) from Taft, Texas; and many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will begin Thursday, September 10, 2020, 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Taft. A Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening,  7:00 PM at the church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 11, 2020, 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Taft. Burial will follow in Palms Memorial Cemetery, Taft.
