Mary R. Moreno passed away June 6, 2026 after a brief illness. She was 69.

She was born July 22, 1956 in Taft, Texas to Clementina (Perez) and Cristoval Rodriguez.

Mary was a cherished soul who spent her entire life in Taft, Texas, a place she called home until her very last day. Her journey in education took her up to the 9th grade before she married Ynez Moreno, though she later earned her GED, proving her dedication to learning. Together, they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Cynthia and Veronica, and opened their hearts to adopt their son, Jason, who Mary loved as her own. Even after their divorce, Mary and Ynez maintained a warm friendship, always prioritizing the well-being of their growing family.

Mary’s passion for cooking was unmatched, a skill she lovingly inherited from her proud father, Cristoval. Her culinary creations were renowned throughout the town, but it was her beautiful spirit that truly shone. Mary had an extraordinary ability to forgive and help others, even when she had little herself, just like her mom, Clementina. She was content with what she had, never asking for more.

Her love for reading, enjoying adult beverages-especially with her adult grandchildren and dancing brought her immense joy. Raised Catholic, Mary lived a humble, Christian life, embodying her values by loving her neighbors and selflessly serving others. She cooked for countless weddings, funerals, graduations, quinceañeras, birthdays and family gatherings, always with a generous heart.

Mary worked diligently and faithfully at HEB in Rockport, Super S in Taft, and for the last 19 years, at Nu Way convenience store. She was more than just an employee; she was a friend to her customers, always asking about their well-being, offering scoldings when needed, celebrating their achievements, and providing wise advice to those who sought it.  

 As a mother, Mary was both strict and loving. She was known to give her children’s friends a scolding when necessary, but she also shared in their joys, cruising with her oldest daughter and friends, riding the bus to high school games, and making tacos for fundraisers. She found immense happiness in watching her children excel in sports and school, always cheering them on.

Mary’s love extended to her grandchildren, whom she adored. She cherished and praised their accomplishments, cheered for them even from afar, and prayed for their well-being. Mary’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Mary found immense joy and love in welcoming a new companion into her life over the past 20 years, David Aguilar, whom she cherished and adored with all her heart. She opened her heart and home to his family, embracing them as her own, with a warmth and love that knew no bounds.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Cristoval and Clementina Rodriguez; brothers Jose Rodriguez, Ruben Rodriguez, Sr. and Enrique Mireles.

Survivors include her children, Cynthia Moreno from Corpus Christi; Veronica Rios (Anestacio) from Cypress; Jason Moreno (Monica) from Taft; stepdaughter, Soila Rojas (Juan) from Kingsville; bonus child, Ruby Rodriguez from Taft; longtime partner, David Aguilar from Taft; 10 grandchildren, Aaron Acosta, Deshay Penny (Travis), Isabella Rios, Gabriel Rodriguez, Chloe Rios, Serenity Rodriguez, Sebastian Rios, Benicio Rios, Jersey Constante and Sylvester Constante; 8 great-grandchildren, Melanie Cruz, Ezra Acosta, Sophia Gonzalez, Emma Acosta, Tucker Penny, Ivan Acosta, Cora Penny and Kaleb Penny; siblings, Vidal “Billy” Mireles from Wharton, Yolanda Cancino from Chicago, Christina Loya from Port Lavaca, Cristobal Rodriguez (Elena) from Converse and Gracie Moreno (Jesse) from Taft.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. The family will begin receiving guests at 9:00 AM. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same morning, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated following rosary, 2:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Church in Taft.  Burial will be held at a later date.
