Mary Alice Garcia Obituary
Mary Alice Garcia, 90, peacefully transitioned from this life on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
She was born in Taft, Texas, on September 5, 1935, to Genoveva Diaz and Jose M. Yglesias. Her mother passed away when Mary Alice was a child and she was then raised by her adoptive mother, Alvina Ramirez, whom she lovingly called Mama Alvina. Mary Alice attended schools in Taft and moved to Sinton upon her marriage in 1951 to Guadalupe R. Garcia. Within the next few years, the couple became parents to a daughter (Joan), a son (Guadalupe), and another daughter (Marta Elva).
She worked at Terry Farris Department Store, Cavitt Hardware & Gifts, and The San Patricio County Health Department where she retired as an administrator after 38 years through the State of Texas. Prior to his death in 1975, Mary Alice helped her husband establish their own business, Coastal Salvage Wrecker Service, and she later became the managing proprietor. Post retirement, she was not one to sit idle and she enjoyed working part-time at Sinton Wal-Mart and later at Main Street Gifts, the family-owned shop. Her hobbies included crocheting and quilting, and she truly enjoyed being part of the Sinton Sacred Heart Quilters group. However, her favorite pastime in addition to family gatherings was attending any and all events in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in as she was their biggest and proudest supporter.
Mary Alice Garcia is preceded in death by her mother: Genoveva; adoptive mother: Alvina; father: Jose; husband: Guadalupe R.; infant son: Guadalupe; and grandson: Vicente Ortiz Jr..
Survivors include daughters: Joan Ortiz (Vicente Sr.) and Marta Elva Garza (Israel) all from Sinton, Texas; grandchildren: Pauline Ortiz, Laura Reyna (Anthony), Elizabeth Ortiz, Krista Garza, Israel Ethan Garza and Priscilla Ortiz; great-grandchildren: Sabreena Ortiz, Vicente Ortiz III, Clarissa Delgado, Isabella Arce, Daniel Arce, Marlow Reyna, Brayden Espinoza, Brian Guajardo, Barrett Munguia and Briggs Munguia; and her brother: Jose Yglesias, Jr. from San Antonio, Texas.
