Taft – Mary Ann Vara Gonzalez entered eternal rest on April 13, 2026, at the age of 65, surrounded by the love of her family at home.

Mary Ann was born in Sinton, Texas, on December 16, 1960, to Francisca (Escobedo) and Juan Vara. She found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life—baking cookies, preparing fruit cups, and making candy apples that brought smiles to the faces of her family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of love, laughter, and togetherness.

Mary Ann carried her faith with quiet strength and grace, and served in her perish as a Catholic Daughter.  She had a warm, beautiful smile that could light up a room and a gentle, kind heart that touched everyone she met. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Mary Ann will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, a caring and selfless mother, a proud and adoring grandmother, and a true friend. Her love was constant, her presence comforting, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Francisca Vara; and her siblings, Mary Malloy, Martin Vara, and Johnny Vara.

Mary Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Victor Gonzalez of Taft, Texas; her daughter, Marisa Elizondo (Mauro) of Portland, Texas; and her cherished grandchildren, Luke Elizondo, Yesenia Elizondo, Gabriel Elizondo, and Annalise Elizondo, all of Portland, Texas, who will continue to carry her love forward.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton. The Holy Rosary will be recited that same evening at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Taft. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Portland, Texas.
