Mary Lou Gonzales Obituary

Sinton – Mary Lou Benavides Gonzales passed away December 27, 2023. She was 82.

Mary Lou was born October 7, 1941 in Sinton, Texas to Maria (Niaves) and Manuel Benavides. She was a lifelong resident of Sinton, Texas. Mary Lou married Jesse Gonzales, and together they raised their family, built their businesses and contributed to Sinton's growth and commerce. Mary Lou was a familiar, friendly face, often working in front and behind the grill at the Dairy Diner restaurant she and her husband owned and operated. They were also owners of a Shell gas station and a radiator shop, where repeat customers became lifelong friends. Mary Lou dove in and was hands-on when it came to their businesses. She learned everything she could from Jesse. They worked side by side and were rarely apart, until his passing 10 years ago. It was the radiator shop where Mary Lou learned to check fluids and service radiators. She also worked for Judy Burr at the San Patricio County Courthouse and for Sinton ISD. Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. We have found peace knowing Mary Lou has been reunited with her beloved Jesse and other family members she has longed to see and missed for so long.  She was a devoted member of both Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and Sacred Heart Church in Sinton.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Jesse Gonzales; parents: Maria and Manuel Benavides; sister: Rita Morin.

Survivors include her 3 daughters: Ruby Ann Rodriguez, Sheila Martinez (Rudy) both from Sinton, Texas and Monica Jones (Tim) from Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren: Ramie Rodriguez, Rendy Rodgriguez, Lauren Martinez (Christopher Cancino), Jared Martinez, Silas Jones, Brahm Jones and Kade Jones; great-grandchildren: Sophia Rodriguez, Colton Cancino and Carson Cancino; sisters: Celia Gonzales (Gonzalo), Carolina Cantu (Roy), Linda Lopez (Raul), Rose Mary Longoria all from Sinton, Texas and Yolanda Carley (Errol) from Olathe, Kansas; brother: Manuel Benavides, Jr. from Sinton, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
