Mateo Refugio Castillo

Taft – Mateo Refugio Castillo passed away October 28, 2023. He was 72.

Mateo was born on July 4, 1951 in Taft, Texas to Elidia (Martinez) and Amador Castillo. He was a lifelong resident of Taft. Mateo was formerly employed as a Landscaper, employed by Coral Cay Condominium. Mateo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Proceeding in death is his son: Sonny Castillo; parents: Amador and Elidia Castillo; brothers: Manuel Castillo, Eluterio Castillo, Julio Castillo, Guadalupe Pena; sisters: Josie Davila, Teressa Hernandez.

Survivors include his loving wife: Odilia Maldonado from Taft, Texas; sons: Sylvester Castillo (Mary) from Houston, Texas, Cipriano Castillo (Jenelle), Silvano Castillo both from Taft, Texas; daughters: Sylvia Tristan (Rodney) from Rockport, Texas, Sonia Martinez (Jose) from Big Wells, Texas; brother: Rey Castillo (Anna) from Taft, Texas; sisters: Elvia Gonzales (Frank) from Taft, Texas, Janie Martinez (Martin) from Ingleside, Texas; daughter-in-law: Becky Castillo from Houston, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin Monday, November 6, 2023, 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Taft, Texas. Burial will follow in Lamas Cemetery, Taft.
