Melissa Gonzales Aquino Obituary

Refugio – Melissa Gonzales Aquino passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 48.

Born on October 10, 1977, in Taft, Texas, to Olivia (Cuellar) and Ruben Gonzales, Melissa lived a life centered on love, family, and helping others. She had a beautiful heart and a giving spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Melissa loved fiercely and without hesitation. Her family was the center of her world, and there was nothing she would not do for those she loved.

Melissa had a special way of making people feel cared for. Whether it was offering a listening ear, a helping hand, words of encouragement, or a home-cooked meal, she gave of herself freely and wholeheartedly. Her kindness knew no bounds, and she was often the person others turned to in times of need. To know Melissa was to know unconditional love, loyalty, and compassion.

She worked as a bookkeeper for the Community Action Center in Sinton, where she was valued for her dedication and caring nature. Outside of work, Melissa found joy in cooking for family and friends, listening to music, and creating memories with the people she cherished most. She was strong-willed, outspoken, and never afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Her honesty, strength, and vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Melissa is preceded in death by her father, Ruben Gonzales; and grandmother, Candelaria Gonzales.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Olivia Cuellar Guerrero (Jose) from Refugio, Texas; brother, Roland Gonzales (Linda) from Taft, Texas; sisters, Stephanie Rice (Jeremy) from Wylie, Texas, Erica Serrata from Corpus Christi, Texas, Ruby Rodriguez from Skidmore, Texas, Christina Guerrero from Refugio, Texas, and Marie “Pumpkin” Garcia of Odem, Texas; her beloved partner, Jose Alfredo Casares from Louisiana; her aunt, Ida Carrillo; her uncles, Jesus “Chuy” Gonzales, Reynaldo Gonzales, Juan Gonzales, Roland Alvarado, and Jose Gonzales; and her treasured nieces and nephews, Derrick Rice, DJ Rice, Braydon Guerrero, Shelby Perez, Brittany Perez, Allie Rose, Anevay Rodriguez and Felix “Buddy” Rodriguez.

Melissa's passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved her. While hearts are broken by her absence, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, strength, and devotion to family will continue to live on through all those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
