Rene M. Cantu, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025 after a long illness. He was 50.

Rene was born January 25, 1975 in Sinton, Texas. He was the cherished son of Olga (Soto) Cantu and the late Rene M. Cantu, Sr. He worked as a handyman and formerly as a contractor, admired for his skill and dedication. More importantly, Rene was a proud son, father, brother and uncle whose greatest joy was his family. He lived life with optimism and strength, remaining a constant source of encouragement and love for his sons, even during his own challenges.

Rene is preceded in death by his father, Rene M. Cantu, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Pedro and Anastasia Soto; his paternal grandparents, Jose Maria and Simona Cantu; and his cousin, Ray Soto.

He leaves behind his sons, Jon Rene Cantu (Julia) and Alex Zander Cantu, all from Sinton; his mother, Olga S. Cantu from St. Paul; his brother, Anthony Cantu (Priscilla) from Corpus Christi; his sister, Elizabeth Cantu from St. Paul; nieces and nephews, Devon, Adenah, Aydan and Avery; and great-nieces, Annais and Ava. His legacy of love and resilience will live on through them.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025, 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 14, 2025, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Sinton with Fr. Yul Ibay as celebrant. Burial will follow in John J. Welder Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Paul.
