Sinton – Roy Cantu, Sr. passed away peacefully August 10, 2025. His family was at his side.

Roy was born September 5, 1940 in Sinton, Texas to Eulalia (Rodriguez) and Carlos Cantu. He was a lifelong resident of Sinton. Roy was married to Carolina (Benavides) and together made their home and raised their children. Roy was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Dupont where he was a Control Room Operator. Roy later owned and operated The Bargain Stop in downtown Sinton where he was a friendly face often spending the day chatting with patrons. Roy was a dedicated husband, father and veteran. He was a hard-worker and good provider to his family. Roy will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Preceding in death are his parents: Carlos & Eulalia Cantu.

Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years: Carolina Cantu; sons: Roy Cantu; Roland Cantu (Elsa), all from Sinton, Texas; daughter: Lisa Marie Nino (Rico) from Corpus Christi, Texas; 9 grandchildren: Roland Rey Cantu (Jennifer). Carol Ann Alaniz (Andres), Ryan Cantu (Autumn), Roman Nino, Marcos Nino, David Justin Cantu, Roy Cantu, III, Traci Cantu and Teresa “Reese” Cantu; great-grandchildren: Adrian Cantu, Andrew Cantu, Bayne Alaniz, Brette Alaniz, Blake Alaniz, Caige Cantu and Julianna Cantu; brother: Robert Cantu (Elma) from Corpus Christi, Texas; sister: Josephine Cantu from Taft, Texas; and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2025, 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening, 6:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sinton with Father Glen Mullan as celebrant. A Graveside Service will follow, 1:00 PM at the Coastal Bend State Veterans State Cemetery, Corpus Christi.
