Roylene Lois Hunt, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 6th, 2021. She was a lifelong citizen of Taft, Texas – the town that she loved. Roylene was a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for close to 50 years. She had a passion for helping those in need. She was the Director of Nurses and Surgical Room Supervisor at the Taft Hospital for many years where she made many lifelong friendships serving the community.
Roylene was preceded in death by the love of her life M. E. “Potsy” Hunt, a romance that began at Taft High School. Together they raised two boys, had a lot of fun, and enjoyed their church family at the first Baptist church of Taft where they were married in 1956. Roylene loved her Bridge club, watching her boys play for the Taft Greyhounds, and spending time with her grandkids. In her retirement years, Roylene loved RV’ing across the country with Potsy and their dog “Pepper”.
She will always be remembered as a strong pillar in the Taft community. She was awarded the “Taft Humanitarian of the Year” award in 1994. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors, not out of obligation but because of who she was. She was never too busy when someone needed help. She regularly brought meals to the homes of sick neighbors. Her spirit will always thrive in Taft, Texas.
Roylene is survived by two sons. Gene (wife Kerri) and their children – Maisie Hunt, Abbey Hunt, Cody Baker (fiancé Deva), and Lindsay Baker. Michael (wife Lou) and their children – Travis Hunt (fiancé Kallie), and Garrett Hunt (wife Emily).
The family would like to thank Pattie and Monte Floerke, Dale and Ann Pogue for always being there for our family. We are forever grateful.
