Odem - Teresa Benavidez Ortiz passed away peacefully July 24, 2025. She was 80.
Teresa was born August 14, 1944 in Sinton, Texas to Guadalupe (Beltran) and Roman Benavidez. She was a lifelong resident of Odem. Teresa was employed by Odem ISD in the food service department. She was a devout Catholic and Guadalupana, always attending mass and church events at Sacred Heart Church. Teresa was a kind woman with a big heart who was always willing to help anyone who called upon her. She was especially willing to lend a helping hand, offer a home-cooked meal or simply take care of her family and grandchildren. Teresa enjoyed fellowship and eating out with her friends. She was a well-known presence in the Odem community, and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Teresa will always live on through us a loving mother, grandmother, sister-in-law and friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband Emerenciano “Chano” Ortiz.
Survivors include a son: Eric Ortiz (Vanessa) from Odem, Texas; 2 grandchildren: Nicole Ortiz and Mark Ortiz; sister: Alicia Candela from Odem, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will begin Sunday, July 27 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same evening, 6:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 28, 2025, 1:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Church, Odem with Fr. Peter Elizardo as celebrant. Interment will follow in San Pedro Cemetery, Odem.
