Virginia Frances (Wright) Kastner went peacefully to her Lord and Savior on the morning of Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the age of 100.

She was a loving wife, mother, Mema, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

Virginia was born on September 23, 1924, in Mathis, Texas, to Bassett and Ruby (Mayes) Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Albert O. Kastner; sister, Sara (Wright) Nelson, brother, Bassett Wright, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Beth Kastner; and son-in-law, Sam Nelson.

She is survived by her four children; Marilyn (Curtis) Curlee of Karnes City, Texas, Dennis (Sharon) Kastner of Rockport, Texas, Nancy Nelson of Kingsville, Texas, and David (Kelly) Kastner of Bryan,Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Ronnie Wright of Sinton.

Virginia leaves behind twelve grandchildren, seventeen great- grandchildren, and three great-great- grandchildren.

Virginia was born and raised in Mathis, Texas, where she graduated from Mathis High School. She met her future husband before graduating and went on to marry at the age of seventeen in 1942.

Together, she and her husband of seventy two years, built a life and raised their family on the farm, between Sinton and Mathis where she lived for eighty years. Virginia was an exceptional homemaker— known for her warm and welcoming kitchen, her delicious home-cooked meals, and her dedication to caring for her household. Her home was always a place of comfort, filled with love and laughter.

Virginia was truly the Matriarch of her family. She was deeply interested and immensely proud of her children and each of her grandchildren. She had a remarkable memory for every birthdate and accomplishment, big or small, and devoted her life to her family.

She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Sinton, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women.

In her later years, Virginia enjoyed traveling, working and helping with Shriner events with her husband. Virginia was a gifted artist and shared many of her oil paintings, which will be cherished for generations by her family. She was also the family historian. She loved antiquing, gardening, sewing for her grandchildren, hosting gatherings for family and friends, and showering her loved ones with affection. She will always be remembered as a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a friend with a caring heart.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Viera Senior Living in Corpus Christi, as well as to the many friends and family who shared their love and kindness with Virginia over the years.

A private service will be held on Friday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m., at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, Texas.
