Ingleside – Walter Gene Cheaney passed away June 8, 2022. He was 74.
Walter was born on January 17, 1948 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Lora Evelen Bellah and William Hubert Cheaney. Walter grew up in Aransas Pass before making Ingleside his home. He loved to fish and mow his neighbors’ yards, he cared for his neighbors deeply. Walter worked for Reynolds Metal as a heavy equipment operator, after retiring from Reynolds, he became an instructor at Texas A&M University, teaching heavy equipment safety.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his loving son: Davin Todd Cheaney; his parents: William and Lora Evelen Cheaney; sister: Patricia Ann “Patsy” Cheaney.
Survivors include his son: Troy David Cheaney from Tulsa, Oklahoma; 2 daughters: Deirdre Champion from Odem, Texas and Carol Ann Cheaney from Ingleside, Texas; 2 brothers: William David Cheaney (Theresa) from Flint, Texas and Willie Tom Cheaney (Jacqueline) from New Braunfels, Texas; sister: Terrie Lynn Cheaney from Aransas Pass, Texas; 8 grandchildren: Preston Herndon, Alicia Cheaney, Troy Cheaney, Jr., Austin Cheaney, Justice Cheaney, Aiden Barbay, Maximus Cheaney and Dylan Parker Reininger; 2 great grandchildren: Harley Herndon and Haylen Herndon; and his 2 cats: Babykitty and Bella.
Pallbearers will be: Preston Herndon, Austin Champion, Aiden Barbay, Willie Tom Cheaney, Casey Ethridge, Bryan Cheaney, David Cheaney and Jimmy Cheaney. Honorary Pallbearer: Dylan Parker Reininger.
A graveside service will be held Monday, June 13, 2022, 10:00 A.M., Prairie View Cemetery, Aransas Pass.
The family would like to extend a special Thank you to Amanda Gonzales, PA and the WellMed Family in Portland and Harbor Hospice and all the nurses, they went above and beyond in the care of their father and brother. We appreciate everyone.
