Winnie Mae Culp Obituary

Winnie Mae Culp Obituary

Winnie Mae Culp, born July 14, 1934, in a humble barn in Ardmore, Oklahoma (with only her mother and God present), passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026. From the very start, Winnie Mae did things her own way.

She grew up in Aransas Pass, Texas, where her lively spirit earned her honors like head cheerleader and “Miss Personality".

After high school, she moved to Corpus Christi to attend beauty school, have fun with her friends, and dance the night away.  Known far more for her fun‑loving spirit than any single endeavor, she later co-owned and launched Mammy’s Restaurant in Ingleside on the Bay with her sister Shirley.

Winnie Mae’s real talent was her lively personality and her ability to connect with people wherever she went.

Winnie Mae Culp Culp Culp (not a misprint) shared a long, on‑again‑off‑again love story with Horace Nolan Culp—showing that love doesn’t always follow a straight line. Together, they cherished two children, Vickie Dee Culp and Nolan Wayne Culp

She is proceeded in death by her sisters, Geneva, Alma, Shirley, and her mother, Lila Mae Goff and stepfather, Clarence “Pick” Mathisen and father, Everett Wallace.

She is survived by her stepsister Dee Tackett and son, Mike.

Mammy, as her grandchildren and great grandchildren called her, is survived by her daughter, Vickie Dee Culp; son, Nolan Wayne Culp (Glenda); and her grandchildren: Robert Spencer Henrichson (Christine), Avery Nolan Henrichson (Amy), Sara DeeLila Bachert (Jeff), Aubrey Loren Paulson (Kirsten), Ryan Steven Paulson, Nolan Wayne Culp Jr. (Ellen), Kevin Doyle Culp (Clare), and John Clinton “Clint” Culp (Leslie); as well as many great-grandchildren. Mammy never sugar‑coated her advice—reminding her grandchildren that “it’s better to be a smart ass than a dumb ass.”

Mammy, Winnie Mae Culp, gave so much love and laughter to this world. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
