Taft – Maria Nieves Castillo Ortiz passed away April 5, 2016. She was 73.

Maria was born in Taft, Texas on August 5, 1942 to Domingo and Aurelia (Tamayo) Castillo. She was a homemaker and resident of Taft, Texas.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband: Arcadio Ortiz; second husband: Agapito Landaverde; her parents; grandson Lucas Lee Ortiz; and great -grandson J.D. Nino.

Survivors include sons: Arcadio Ortiz, Jr.; Juan Jose “JJ’ (Sylvia G.) and Clemente Ortiz, all of Alice, Texas; daughters: San Juana Ortiz Alejos of Alice, Texas; Angelmira Ortiz Nino (Jessie G.) of Crockett, Texas; Maria del Rosario Ortiz Trevino (David) of Uvalde, Texas; Maria del Carmen Ortiz Rivera (Henry) of Taft, Texas Maria de los Angeles Ortiz Longoria (Natividad, Jr.) of Taft, Texas; Rosa Anna Ortiz of Corpus Christi, Texas; Rebecca Ortiz Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas and Roxy Jane Ortiz of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters: Maria Elena Martinez and Maria Luz de Vina Acosta, both of Sinton, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin Friday, April 8, 2016, 3:00 PM, at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. A rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 9, 2016, 10:00 AM, at Immaculate Conception Church in Taft, Texas with Father Peter Stanley as celebrant. Burial will follow in Taft Memorial Park Cemetery, Taft, Texas. Pallbearers will be Gilroy Candelaria, Mario Ortiz, John Paul Longoria, Jessie Nino, Jr., Johnny Milton Nino, Johnathon Nino, Casey Montez and Ricky Rivera, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Montez, Domingo Antonio Rodriguez and Andres Javier Galvez.
