Portland – Maurine Faye Smith passed away December 30, 2017.  She was 83.

Maurine was born on September 25, 1934 in Cameron County, Texas to Oscar O. Mills and Bessie Faye (Cothran.)  Maurine was a native of South Texas and worked in the insurance industry since the 1970’s.

Maurine is proceeded in death by her husband: Richard Smith. Survivors include her daughter: Karen Ivey of Taft, Texas and her step-daughters:  Shelley Matocha (Patrick) of Sinton, Texas and Leisa (Joe, Jr.) Perez of Sinton, Texas.  She is also survived by her wonderful grandchildren:  Paige Lindner of San Antonio, Texas and Ben Ivey of Taft, Texas; one precious great-grandchild:  Genevieve Lindner. 

Maurine was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved cats, golf and playing bridge.  She also enjoyed growing roses and her avocado trees.  Maurine was an active member of her community and had a successful career in insurance with Borden Insurance and later Shepard Walton King.  She will be missed by many.

Funeral services will begin Saturday, January 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Taft.
