Mathis – Deon VaRee Howard passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2016 with her loving family by her side. She was 81.

Deon was born in Altus, OK on November 23, 1934 to Lawrence Ray and Ethel (White) Bennett. Deon owned and operated Deon Howard Bookkeeping & Tax Service for several years. She was a resident of Mathis, Texas for the past 11 years and formerly Taft, Texas.

Deon is preceded in death by her parents: Lawrence and Ethel Bennett; and sister: Norma Floerke.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Walter Howard, Jr. of Mathis, Texas; sons: Michael Ray Howard (Nancy Jo) of Houston, Texas; and Walter Howard III (Margaret) of San Antonio, Texas; daughters: Kelli VaRee Bergoon (Sid) of Taft, Texas and Ginny Lynn Winsauer (Ty) of Sandia, Texas: grandchildren: Amanda Barrington; Walter Howard IV, Wesley Henry Howard; Andrew Howard Miller (Stacy); Katie VaRee Patterson (Jordan); Hunter Winsauer; William Winsauer; and Asa Winsauer; 5 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Bobby Floerke of Taft, Texas: and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
