Anita S. Gilbreath, 78 years old, was called home by our Heavenly Father on October 14, 2016 with her loving husband of 57 years, Robert, by her side.

She was born August 31, 1938 to John Butler Stewart and Bennie Lurline Stewart (nee Vickery).

Anita was a resident of Portland, Texas since 1976 and former resident of Beeville and Refugio. She graduated Sinton High School in 1956 where she was active in the drama club and elected Freshman Class Girl Favorite. Anita attended Southwest Texas State. She married the love of her life, Robert Carl Gilbreath on August 28, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Sinton, Texas. Anita was a wonderful wife to Robert and mother to their son, John. Through the years she worked as a legal secretary and after the birth of John, tended to her home. Anita lived a full and blessed life. She was an accomplished artist who loved to paint for friends and relatives. She was an amateur radio operator – call sign WD5FUI. Anita always stayed current with national and world events. She could discuss all events in depth. Her favorite hobby was raising miniature pinscher dogs for a number of years. She and Robert showed and co-owned two championship dogs. Anita clearly loved her animals. She also loved to travel. Anita especially enjoyed trips to Colorado, New Mexico and Las Vegas. Anita lived her life serving the Lord, reading and studying her bible. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Preceding in death are her parents John and Bennie Stewart; and brother: John Butler Stewart, Jr.

Anita is survived by her husband: Robert Carl Gilbreath of Portland, Texas; a son: John Marlin Gilbreath of Terre Haute, Indiana; brother and sister-in-law: Bennie L. and Estella Stewart of Portland, Texas; brother-in-law: Ronnie Gilbreath and wife, Cynthia, of Hockley, Texas; two nieces and one nephew.

The family will receive guests Monday, October 17, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton, Texas. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2016, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. A graveside service and burial will be held the same afternoon, 2:00 PM at Kenedy Cemetery in Kenedy, Texas.
